Short answer: the factory price is only the first line of the cost. We quote EXW Wuyi, in US dollars, per square metre of the opening and by design. To get the landed cost, add export clearance, sea freight, insurance, import duty, import tax, local delivery and installation. In some markets the duty is a bigger number than the freight.
What is in an EXW price, and what is not?
Under Incoterms 2020, EXW (Ex Works) means the seller makes the goods available at its own premises. The buyer arranges and pays for loading, export formalities, transport and insurance, and carries the risk from that point.
| Cost | In our EXW price? |
|---|---|
| Door leaf, frame and face, made to your drawing | Yes |
| Pivot hinge or hinges, locks and handles you choose | Yes |
| Hardware test in our workshop | Yes |
| Blankets, foam and wooden crate | Yes |
| Loading, export clearance, sea freight, insurance | No |
| Import duty and import tax | No |
| Delivery to site, cranage, installation | No |
How do you work out the landed cost?
- Start with the EXW quote. Ask for the door, the hardware and the crate as separate lines, and the crate size and gross weight.
- Get a freight quote from your forwarder from Ningbo or Shanghai to your port, using the crate size. Large leaves may need an open-top container or a flat rack; see how big a pivot door can be.
- Add cargo insurance. Ask your forwarder or insurer for a quote on the door value plus freight.
- Work out the customs value the way your country does it. Some charge duty on the CIF value (cost, insurance and freight), some on the value at the port of export.
- Apply the duty rates for the tariff code your broker confirms. Aluminium doors are usually classified under heading 7610.10.
- Add import tax (GST or VAT), which is usually charged on the customs value plus duty.
- Add local costs: port charges, broker fees, delivery, a crane if needed, and installation.
What duty and tax apply in each market?
These are the rates we found on official pages in October 2026. They change, so treat this as a checklist, not a quote.
| Market | Duty on aluminium doors (7610.10) | Import tax |
|---|---|---|
| United States | 5.7% base duty; 7.5% Section 301 duty on Chinese goods (List 4A); 50% Section 232 duty on the full customs value since 6 April 2026; plus a merchandise processing fee of 0.3464% | Sales tax rules vary by state |
| Australia | 5% general rate; a lower rate may apply under the China–Australia Free Trade Agreement with a certificate of origin. Check trade-remedies case 691 for doors up to 3.0 m high | 10% GST on customs value, duty, transport and insurance |
| Canada | 6.5% (China does not get the duty-free rate) | 5% GST on value for duty plus duty |
| Saudi Arabia | Check the rate in the ZATCA tariff | 15% VAT on CIF value plus duty |
| United Arab Emirates | 5% of CIF value | 5% VAT |
For the United States, the three duties are not alternatives. Ask your broker which apply together on the date of entry, because US tariffs on Chinese goods have changed several times in 2026. For Australia, our pivot doors for Australia page explains case 691 and doors taller than 3.0 m.
Why can two doors of the same size cost very different amounts?
The face is the biggest variable. A deep carved face takes longer on the CNC machine and by hand than a flat sheet face, and a cast face needs a mould. Hardware is the second: a FritsJurgens pivot hinge and a smart lock from KFV, G-U or Wintech are priced by model. Compare, for example, Grain Band, with a sheet face, and Lattice, with a cast face. Freight and duty then scale with the crate size and the door’s value.
What should you ask a door factory for, to compare quotes fairly?
- The Incoterm, the currency and the date the price is valid to.
- The opening size the price is based on, and the price basis (per square metre, per door).
- The face, the core, the hinge and the lock, by brand and model.
- Crate size and gross weight, so your forwarder can quote.
- What testing happens before crating, and whether you can inspect the doors at the factory before they ship.
Send us the opening and the design, and we will send an EXW quote with these lines. Our guide on what to send a door manufacturer lists what we need.

Quick answers
What does an EXW price include?
Under Incoterms 2020, EXW means the seller makes the goods available at its own premises. Our EXW price covers the door, its hardware, testing in our workshop and crating. Loading, export clearance, freight, insurance, import duty, taxes, local delivery and installation are paid by the buyer.
Why don't you publish one price per door?
We price each door per square metre of the opening and by design, then add the hardware you choose. A carved face, a cast face and a sheet face cost different amounts, and so do the locks and pivot hinges. Send us the opening and we quote that door.
What import duty applies to aluminium entrance doors?
It depends on the market and changes often. As of October 2026, US entries under HTS 7610.10 face a 5.7% base duty, a 7.5% Section 301 duty and a 50% Section 232 duty on the full value. Check the current rate with your customs broker before you order.
